Thursday, June 23, 2011, Conway - Tammy Sizemore couldn't have picked a better time to open Tammy's Ice Cream & More in historic downtown Conway: It's hot, Riverfest is this weekend, and it's really hot.

She's dishing cold and tasty ice cream - 16 flavors of Blue Bunny - that Sizemore will whip into a shake, scoop into a cup, pile on for a sundae or banana split, or mix in goodies to make a blizzard.

An extra-special treat is her waffles cones that are made on the spot. She pours batter in a waffle machine, puts it on a mold and before you can quit drooling she is handing over your flavor ice cream flavor in a freshly griddled cone.

Another cold treat served at Tammy's is snowcones, but she and her partner, Kent Watts, also serve hot food.

"He has always wanted a restaurant business," Sizemore said on June 22, "so we're doing it."

She grew up in the Conway area off S.C. 905, then moved away to Las Vegas, then Florida, then Germany. When her husband passed away 10 years ago after a battle with cancer, she moved back to the Conway area and replanted her roots.

So now she and Watts are serving Radd Dew Barbecue, hot dogs, sausage dogs, subs, chicken or tuna salad, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and salads. Nothing only the menu is more than $5.50 (a large salad with meat), popcorn is $1 and house-made lemonade is $2.25.

Watts is also cooking up daily blue plate specials, and local delivery is available.

Tammy's Ice Cream & More is around the corner from the Theatre of the Republic at 1011 4th Ave. in Conway, and the number is (843) 488-2828. It's open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and opens at noon on Sundays.
