Thursday, June 14, 2012, Murrells Inlet - Edward Milardo is baking two kinds of pizzas at his new Murrells Inlet restaurant.
Located in the former Cooter's Backyard Bar & Grill at 3264 U.S. 17 S., Milardo's Pizzeria & Sports Pub is a roomy and relaxed restaurant with community table seating to the right of the front door; tables straight ahead; a large bar with booths, cocktail tables and bar seating; and in the rear are counter seats with views of the kitchen action. Soft rock plays at a medium volume, and several televisions are throughout the space.
Milardo makes pizzas with a choice of crusts - Sicilian thick or New York style thin. Both have pleasantly crunchy bottom crusts, and at lunchtime diners can get two slices of cheese pizza and a drink for $6. Slices with one topping are $3-$3.50 (depending if you choose a thin or thick crust), two topping slices are $3.50-$4, and three toppings will set you back $4-$4.50.
Specialty pizzas are $11-$24 with choices including Meat Lovers, Veggie, White Philly Steak (white pizzas are made with ricotta, garlic, olive oil and Roma tomatoes), White Shrimp Scampi and Barbecue Chicken.
The menu also lists many flavors of Calzones and Stromboli along with pasta dishes like Lasagna and Cheese Tortellini. Entrees ($10-$18) include broiled or fried Scallops, Eggplant or Chicken Parmesan, Seafood Platter, Ribs, Filet Mignon, New York Strip and Maine Lobster.
Several Grinders are $8-$9 (comes with chips) like the Italian Combo; Sausage, Peppers and Onions; Meatball; and Chicken Philly.
Salads and finger foods include wings, fried shrimp, quesadillas, antipasto, Greek salad and Caesar salad.
Milardo's has a full bar, and happy hour is from 4-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. That's when domestic drafts are $2, well drinks are $3 and select appetizers are $5.
Milardo's is behind Inlet Square Mall at 3264 U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet, and the number is (843) 651-7770. It opens daily at 11:30 a.m., and delivery is available.
