Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, Myrtle Beach – Chefs are on the move, a couple different restaurants are hosting benefits for veterans this weekend and Myrtle Beach is going to be full of barbecue for Labor Day weekend.

 

Chef news

 

Steve Martin is the executive chef at the new Graham’s Landing steak and seafood restaurant that will open in a few weeks at 5225 U.S. 17 Business S. in Murrells Inlet. That’s the former location of Cedar Hill Landing. Smokers are being set up so smoked meats can be included on the menu.

 

Chef de Cuisine Ty Litton has left his job at Nalu’s in Garden City.

 

 

 

These posters will be in the silent auction Saturday at Mama Rue's.

 

Veteran benefit

 

Roy Gilbert is a U.S. Air Force Veteran who loaded nuclear weapons on B-52s when he was in the 23rd Munitions Maintenance Squadron. These days he is an instrument maker and musician, and he is undergoing cancer treatment. A benefit to help defray his living and travel expenses while he is being treated is being held from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Mama Rue’s Blues Garden, which is at 9737 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island. The evening will include musical guests, a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, and food and drink specials.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Veterans’ poker run

 

A poker run benefitting Hospice for Heroes Supporting Our Veterans being held Saturday, Aug. 18, at The Beaver Bar County Line will include Jeffrey Allen Edwards performing starting at 5:30 p.m. 

 

Social media help

organization is having a fall membership launch party from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Liberty Tap Room at 7561 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach.

Beach Boogie & BBQ

 

The Beach Boogie & BBQ Festival starts Friday, Aug. 31 and continues through Sunday, Sept. 2 at Grand Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. If you want barbecue, it will be sold starting at noon on Saturday at $10 for unlimited samples, and in previous years it sold out quickly. Other events include live music from a variety of bands, wakeboarding demonstrations, fireworks on Saturday night and free watermelon on Sunday, while supplies last. 

 

Brews, Blues & BBQ

 

Pulled Pork, Rib Fingers, Smoked Brisket and more will be sold in sample sizes for $1-$4, and specialty craft beers will be $3-$4 from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at House of Blues at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. Tim Allen’s Bluestime and Hip Kitty will perform, and it will be a party atmosphere, complete with prizes.
