Myrtle Beach Restaurant News Weekend Roundup

Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, Myrtle Beach – Festivals, award-winning specials, football bog and a free appetizer are a tiny part of this week’s humongous Myrtle Beach Restaurant News Weekend Roundup.

 

Beer Fest

 

The Craft Rooster in Conway is having its annual Beer Fest from 5-11 p.m. today and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. For $30 you get a tasting glass, T-shirt and 20 beer tickets. More than 100 beers will be on-site, and there will be live music, caricature artists Calvin Blassingame and Michael Johnson, Groovy Green Glass, LuLu’s Lathers, the Myrtle Beach Society of Homebrewers and Piggly Wiggly Market Common. UPDATE - The $30 Beer Fest bundle is SOLD OUT! You can still attend, though. There is free admission, tasting glasses are $5, beer sampling tickets are $1 each, and the samples cost anywhere from 1-6 tickets.

 

Prize-winning Dishes

 

Dishes from two chefs who recently received first place awards in Myrtle Beach’s Next Best Chef competition will be available this weekend at their respective restaurants. Louis’s at Sanfords in Pawleys Island will offer Chef Nick Batchelder’s Miso Glazed Local Black Drum with Chinese braised turnips and greens in dashi-ponzu broth; and Scatori’s is serving Chef Kevin Levine’s Seafood Wellington. 

 

 

Free Appetizer

 

If you buy at least two entrees at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Myrtle Beach, you can get a free order of their Barbecued Shrimp Appetizer if you have THIS COUPON.

 

Football Bog

 

Weekends are getting boggy at Landshark Bar & Grill, because on Saturdays and Sundays through football season the traditional Horry County dish of Chicken Bog is being served. A helping costs $10. Landshark is oceanfront at 1110 N. Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach, and the number is (843) 788-0001.

 

Huddle House has beefed up its meals.

Huddle Up

 

Huddle House, which has two Grand Strand locations at 3503 S.C. 544 in Conway and 3711 U.S. 17 in North Myrtle Beach, has three new menu items in its Steak House Favorites promotion. A Prime Rib Tips dinner ($9) comes with sautéed mushroom and onions, jus, two sides and Texas Toast; Bacon-Wrapped Sirloin ($10) comes with two sides and Texas Toast; and the Prime Rib Tips Sandwich ($6) is in a hoagie roll with mushrooms and onions and comes with fries. Huddle House Franchise Information manager, Jennifer Nolan, says they also, “…feature a Broad Street Double Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich which will prompt our guests to try our new, higher quality Philly meat.”

 

New Management

 

The Brat Haus at 7050 S.C. 90 E. in Longs has had a shift in management. Werner Ott is still the owner, but Andrew Fuchs is no longer the manager. Starting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 13, Ott is having an Oktoberfest with beer and brat specials and a prize raffle. New Oktoberfest beers are from Sam Adams and Spaten. Herb Fest

 

The Low Country Herb Society is having its Fall Garden Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13 at Inlet Culinary Gardens at 5071 U.S. 17 Bypass in Murrells Inlet. Many herbs, veggies and flowers will be for sale along with heirloom pumpkins, gourds and squashes, and society members will be on site to offer recipes and herb use suggestions.

 

Harvest Home Weekend

 

Anyone familiar with Brookgreen Gardens knows it is an amazing outdoor sculpture garden, but it also has great restaurants. During the Harvest Home Weekend on Oct. 13-14, the culinary staff is serving White Bean Chili, Vegetarian Soup, salad, seasonal desserts, beer, wine and more. The weekend also includes a fall plant sale, pumpking painting, scarecrow building and hay rides, plus live entertainment ranging from bluegrass music to storytelling and puppet shows.

 

ShrimpFest

 

Tasty seafood, hot cars and motorcycles, arts and crafts and more are coming to the Little River ShrimpFest taking place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Little River waterfront. This year there will be children’s activities and a Shrimp & Grits Cook-Off at noon on Sunday.

 

Vegetarian, meaty and spicy chilis will be served at the Lip-Rippin' Chilympics.

Chilympics

 

Chili lovers will get their fills at the Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, waterfront at Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet. Chili sampling tickets are $1 each, and New South Brewing beer will be available. Much live entertainment is planned, and attendees are being asked to bring a non-perishable or canned food item to donate to South Strand Helping Hand. The Chilympics benefits the Surfrider Foundations that “…works to protect our oceans, waves and beaches.” This Snack Pack from DomeCandy Lab is one of the raffle prizes. 

 

Cooking in the Courtyard – and More!

 

Woofie McClary of Frank’s Restaurant & Bar has two events scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 17. At 6 p.m. there is Cooking in the Courtyard, where for $50 attendees will receive three food courses paired with three wines. The menu includes:

 

Griddled PLT – roasted pork belly, late summer tomatoes and baby arugula with lime cilantro aioli, and Schug Sonoma Coast Savignon Blanc.

 

Pan-roasted Grouper – with local clams, buttery beet broth, micro greens and Schug Cameros Chardonnay.

 

Braised Lamb Ragu – with mushrooms, tomatoes, pappardelle pasta and Schug Sonoma Cabernet.

 

The second events starts at 8 p.m., and for $25 per person there will be a tasting of Schug Heritage collection wines served with cheese and chocolate. Axel Schug of Schug Winery will attend both events.

An Evening at Sunnyside

 

Through Oct. 15 tickets are $85 per person for An Evening at Sunnyside, when on Nov. 8 the historic plantation house off U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet will be the site for hors d’oeuvres, desserts, wines, cocktails, live music, dancing and a silent auction to benefit Murrells Inlet 2020. After. Oct. 15 the tickets are $100. Tickets can be purchased on-line HERE.

 

 

LOOKING AHEAD

 

 

Brew at the Zoo

 

Ahhhh, what could be finer than beer in South Carolina, especially if you get to drink it in a gorgeous Lowcountry garden? Brew at the Zoo takes place from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. Tickets are $40 for the public and $35 for Brookgreen members, and the deal includes tastings of more than 30 craft beers, appetizers, a tasting glass, live music from Bullfrog and permission to take a lovely night stroll through Brookgreen’s Lowcountry Zoo.
