Gem City Pizza Opens Second Location

Scott Roman (L), A.J. Hunt and Eric Archey opened a second location of Gem City Pizza in Ohio.

Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, Myrtle Beach – After three young men from the Steubenville, Ohio, area opened Gem City Pizza in the Myrtle Beach Super Block this spring, their Ohio Valley-style squares were favorably noticed by tourists visiting here from Ohio who wanted a Gem City closer to home.

So Eric Archey, A.J. Hunt and Scott Roman gave them what they wanted. The second Gem City Pizza opened Oct. 5 in Toronto, Ohio.

“A shop went out of business up there,” Archey said today at the Myrtle Beach location. “It was a deal we couldn’t pass up, so we jumped on it.”

The men renovated the restaurant to have the same youthful urban style as the Myrtle Beach pizza shop, and Archey says success has been immediate.

“We’re doing eight to nine times the business over what we do here,” he said. “It’s pretty exciting stuff.”

Hunt and Roman are running the Toronto restaurant, and Archey is operating the Myrtle Beach Gem City with some part-time help.
