Fresh Local Foods Planned at New Myrtle Beach Restaurant

Spanky's Pub House will open in Myrtle Beach in early 2013.

By Becky Billingsley

Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, Myrtle Beach – Named in honor of the owner’s dog, Spanky’s Pub House is scheduled to open in early 2013 at the north end of Myrtle Beach.

Bob and Carrie Ross own a contracting business in Raleigh, N.C., and for many years have owned a second home in Myrtle Beach. They hired restaurant industry veteran Anna Holland of Greenville to oversee getting Spanky’s ready to open.

The site is at 9776 Kings Rd., by another restaurant called Pizza Chef. Inside remodeling is taking place to create a handsome dark-wood bar along the right side of the slender space, with cocktail tables to the left. Paint in soothing shades of frosted blue have been applied to the walls, and a new door is being added that leads to a large and pleasant outdoor dining patio.

Holland says the intent is to have, “…a nice bar with fresh food made from scratch, like hand-patted burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, wings and sandwiches.”

They’ll have all the televised sports packages and low-key live music out on the patio, which faces the fairway of a golf course. A final touch to the remodeling will be to hang black and white photos from the Myrtle Beach area.

Brian Jones has been hired as the kitchen manager, and Holland says the Rosses are choosing to open during the winter so there is time to “work out the kinks” before the busy tourist season.
