Two New Pizza Parlors

Donatos Pizza has a pleasantly dense crispy/chewy crust.

By Becky Billingsley

Tuesday, February 22, 2011, Myrtle Beach and Garden City - A new pizza restaurant opens today in Garden City, and another is opening soon in the Socastee area of Myrtle Beach.

In Garden City, today Mike Zemke is opening the doors at Donatos Pizza at 2607 U.S. 17 Business. The Ohio-based chain has many fans among Grand Strand area transplants who are eager to have the chewy and hearty pizza crusts and stromboli, and fresh and crispy-chewy breads on the subs.

Donatos also serves salads, wings, cookies and desserts pizzas, and an extra large bakery pizza starts at $10.

Donatos is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and until 11 p.m. on the weekends. As the season progresses it will be open even later. The number is (843) 651-0011.

In a few weeks Don Burg will open Fox's Pizza Den in Socastee.

In Socastee, Don Burg is opening the Grand Strand's second location of Fox's Pizza Den at 4620 Dick Pond Rd., in the former Atomic Pizza spot. The other Fox's Pizza Den, which is a Pittsburgh-based chain, is at 4326 U.S. 17 in Murrells Inlet.

Burg, who is a husband, father and U.S. Army National Guard soldier, has five years' experience at Ultimate California Pizza and 10 years' experience as a chef in Maryland. He hasn't yet finalized the menu - Fox's Pizza Den operators are allowed to fine-tune their selections. He'll deliver within a 5-mile range.

The opening will be in mid-March, and the phone number is (843) 294-3697. The website address is FoxsPizzaSocastee.com, and their facebook page has the same name.
