Wednesday, June 27, 2012, Murrells Inlet - The former Short Bar location in Murrells Inlet is becoming Marsh Walk Market, a place where South Carolina artisans will sell their works.
The new owners signed papers this week to secure the property at 4078 U.S. 17 Business from Burroughs & Chapin. One of those partners, Tom Davis, is also a partner in the Inlet Sports Lodge.
The site's building was an historic Myrtle Beach beach house moved to its present location more than 10 years ago. Since then it was a succession of restaurants including Hana's, Petit Vine, K-Rae's and, until June 20, the Short Bar.
Davis said the existing ramps will be removed from the front of the building, and an enclosed vintage-style brick courtyard will be constructed on two sides. The site will be a place for South Carolina artists, quality crafts makers and people selling South Carolina food products to offer their wares.
"This will give people more to do in the daytime in Murrells Inlet," Davis said today at the site. "We want to get a safe crosswalk [across U.S. 17 Business] over to here. We've been working with Danny Isaac [president of the S.C. Dept. of Transportation] on that."
While the complete vision for the market won't be finished right away, Davis says he plans for South Carolina artists to be doing business on the approximately two-acre site before summer is over.
