Thursday, September 17, 2009, Myrtle Beach – Just had to tell you about our dinner Saturday evening at The Landing. I remembered that you said they were supposed to open last week, so we drove by and saw that they were open and went in.

The Landing decorThere were a few people at the bar, but it was early and we were the only customers in the dining area. I have never felt so welcomed and appreciated as they rolled out the red carpet.

We moved here from [Maryland] where we lived for over 23 years, and were born and raised in central [Pennsylvania], so it was delightful talking to their manager, Chris [Greening] who is from Hanover, Penn. Then John and Faye Staub came out and talked with us also. So not only were we made to feel at home, but the food was outstanding!

I had the Cream of Seafood Soup, which was loaded with crab meat, shrimp and scallops. Karl had the Maryland crab soup which was also excellent. Their soups are served in crocks, so it is a generous portion.

Karl had the Lump Crab Cake, Fried Shrimp and Oysters for an entree, and I had the Veal Oscar, which was two lightly breaded pieces of veaThe Landing dessertsl on top of asparagus, with lots of jumbo crab lumps on top with a Hollandaise Sauce over it all. The vegetable was perfectly prepared fresh green beans (not overdone) with onion and mushrooms.

I was feeling full, so I asked for a small box to take some of my vegetables home, and then the waiter brought us each a sample of Faye's homemade desserts for free (Chambord Cheesecake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie). They said their first week has kind of been slower than they had hoped, but I told them I would tell everyone.

I know how wonderful their food is. They do not use frozen seafood.

I hope that you can go by and visit this restaurant, as I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to go back and try some more of their other entrees. They plan to have family-type comfort foods on Sundays in the future.

The Landing is at 407 Seaboard St., across from Coastal Grand Mall, and the number is (843) 213-1774. It is open for lunch and dinner daily.
